Arts Volunteers

Arts Volunteers

Arts Volunteers is able to make donations to support local schools and organisations to further the development, knowledge and enjoyment of the arts. Our main fund raising event each year is our Bridge Drive. We thank you for your support. Other money comes from our second hand book stall at our monthly meetings and sale of Wendy Bennett’s water colour paintings.

Art@the station

We have continued to display art from local schools (Bohunt, Liphook Junior and Infant Schools, Churcher’s Junior School and Highfield School) in the ticket office at Liphook Station. The work is changed three times each year. It gives a wonderful chance to showcase the childrens’ work as well as to brighten up the Station.

Undershaw School

We had previously made a donation to Undershaw. Now that covid is behind us they have been able to take sixty of their pupils on a visit to the Sculpture Park in Churt. The children took photographs and were able to use these to develop their own art once they returned to school. They thoroughly enjoyed their visit.

Hindhead  Music Centre

We donated £500 to Hindhead Music Centre to help repair damaged instruments. They are now able to hold more concerts. We are most fortunate to have a centre of musical excellence in Hindhead where students of any age or ability are able to receive first class tuition.

Grayshott C of E Primary School;

We gave a donation to Grayshott Primary School which together with money from their PTA, paid for workshops from a local ceramic artist. Sixty children were helped to design and make sections of a ceramic totem pole. The parts were fired, the children then glazed them and they were fired again before being assembled to form a totem pole. The totem pole was displayed in the Hidden Gardens of Grayshott  in May    2023 and is now situated by the pond area in Grayshott School. It is well worth la visit to see the totem pole. The Children have included insects, spiders, and even a snake in their design. They have thought a great deal about its suitability for its intended space and learned a lot about working with clay and firings. It was a very well worthwhile project.

PREVIOUS PROJECTS

The Edward Barnsley Workshop

We were pleased to make a donation to the Edward Barnsley Workshop in Froxfield, near Petersfield. They design and make bespoke furniture and train apprentices to become craftsmen. We were able to donate £500 which went towards paying for tools and equipment used by the apprentices. The Edward Barnsley Workshop holds open days when visitors are welcomed. The design and workmanship of the furniture is exquisite. It is well worthwhile visiting their website to see examples of their work. (www.barnsley-furniture.co.uk)

Liphook C of E Primary School

We made a donation of £300 to Liphook Junior School, which paid for a local artist, Tamzin Norris, to run water colour workshops with three year-groups. We were supporting the children at school and also a local artist. The children painted giraffes, cranes and elephants, which contributed to their project on Africa. The children were taught to really look at what they were painting and to mix water colours. The results were excellent.  Money also went towards buying T-shirts for the “Crew” who helped with props and scenery in the School’s production of Peter Pan.

The Holme Primary School

The Holme Primary School in Headley wanted to make mosaics which depicted their school values of Love, Courage and Wisdom. We paid for David Bowers who runs “Mosaic Madness”  to lead workshops where thirty  children designed, made and grouted three mosaics. The results were delightful and the children learned a great deal about designing and making mosaics. The mosaics were displayed in the School Entrance Hall.
