Back by popular demand following the success of last year’s event, we’ll again be holding our Christmas lunch at Waverley Abbey House in December.
For a report from the event click here and for photos see our photograph gallery.
A Grade II listed Georgian mansion by the River Wey between Tilford and Farnham, Waverley Abbey House is now owned by a Christian charity which uses it for training and conferences.
This year we’ll start off with a talk in the lovely Waverley Room overlooking the grounds and the river when John Owen (Jo) Smith, a well-known local historian from Headley, will talk to us on Flora Thompson: Beyond Candleford Green. For some years, Hampshire born Flora, best known for her semi-autobiograpgical novel Lark Rise to Candleford, lived in Grayshott, where she was the Assistant Postmistress.
After John’s talk, we’ll have mulled wine in the lounge, followed by lunch in the dining room. The timetable for the day will therefore be

13.00 Two course traditional Christmas Lunch (with other options) followed by coffee and mints. Wine, soft drinks and crackers included.
