Visit to Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery, Ealing and Osterley Park and House – Wednesday 18 May 2022

Pitzhanger Manor

Pitzhanger Manor is an English country house (it was the countryside in the early 19C!) famous as the home of neo-classical architect Sir John Soane, built between 1800-1804 in Walpole Park, Ealing.  We will divide into 2 groups to have guided tours of the house, the exhibition revealing the fascinating story of its restoration and the contemporary art gallery.  Lunch and refreshment facilities are available at the cafe in the adjoining walled kitchen garden.

After lunch we transfer by coach for a visit to Osterley Park and House nearby.  A spectacular neo-classical mansion of the 1570’s built for Sir Thomas Gresham, financial adviser to Queen Elizabeth I and founder of the Royal Exchange.  Re-modelled in the late 18C by architect and designer Robert Adam.  We will have 3 different time slots to view the House and we can explore the beautiful gardens, lakes and parklands at our leisure.  There is also a café here for refreshments.
